Welcome to WWE-News.com for WWE NXT Results of January 15, 2020 edition. Tonight’s show opened up with a graphic in memory of WWE Hall of Famer Rocky Johnson, who passed away at the age of 75. Mauro Ranallo welcomes us – live from from the NXT Arena at Full Sail University in Winter Park, FL. WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix joined Mauro tonight, and no sign of Nigel McGuinness.
Keith Lee came out first as Alicia Taylor did the introductions. Fans did the chant for Lee. He got hyped up about being the #1 contender to NXT North American Champion Roderick Strong. Lee will get his title shot next week. He said The Undisputed Era had a great 2019, and they still hold all the men’s gold in NXT.
Lee went on and said the end of their 2019 was as great as anyone, except maybe him. So, fans chanted more for Lee. He said The Undisputed Era has reached their peak and their limit, while he… he is limitless. Lee said he will prove that next week when he defeats Strong to become the NXT North American Champion and forever.
However, the music interrupted and The Undisputed Era came out. Adam Cole told the crowd to shut up. He went on about what they’ve done to Imperium and Tommaso Ciampa as of late. Cole said Lee is next. They immediately rushed the ring, but Lee fought them off for a big pop. Lee went to put Cole down, but the save was made. They beat down Lee and Strong had a steel chair.
Strong wrapped the chair around Lee’s ankle, and jumped off the second rope, smashing the leg in the chair. So, fans chant “Roddy sucks!” Ciampa ran down, but the tag champs and Strong met him at ringside. He fought them off and hit the ring as The Undisputed Era retreated. Fans chant “Daddy’s home!” while Ciampa was checking on Lee in the ring. They stood together as Ciampa’s music hit.
The BroserWeights def. Mark Andrews & Flash Morgan Webster in the first round of The Dusty Classic
Pete Dunne was out first for tonight’s opening match. Matt Riddle was out next while fans were chanting “Bro!” at The BroserWeights. This was one of the final first round matches for the 2020 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament. NXT UK Superstars Flash Morgan Webster and Mark Andrews were out next. Andrews and Riddle went at it with Dunne also involved. Webster also tagged in for more quick back & forth, tangling on the mat. Both teams faced off in the ring while fans were chant, and here comes the commercial.
After the break, Riddle came in to hit the Broton on Webster for a two count. Riddle hit kicks to keep Webster down. He delivered a big chop in the corner. Andrews ended up coming in and taking down both opponents with a big double team. He delivered with more impressive offense against his opponents at the same time. Webster tagged in and they ran the ropes together, leaping out to take down Riddle and Dunne on the floor. So, fans chanted “NXT!” Andrews and Webster double teamed Dunne in the ring.
Webster got a 2 count in the middle of the ring. Dunne ended up unloading on Andrews and hitting a big German out of the corner. Dunne hit kicks and more offense. Riddle came in to double team Andrews. They landed big kicks at the same time and Riddle covered for two while Dunne dropped Webster when he ran in. Fans chanted “NXT!” again. Riddle mounted more big offense on Andrews until Dunne came in and kept Andrews grounded.
Dunne worked Andrews over and stomped on his ankles. He applied an ankle lock on Andrews. Andrews escaped and hit a Northern Lights suplex, then a big stomp to the chest. Here comes to commercial with Andrews in control. After the break, Webster went at it with Riddle, kicking Riddle off the apron into the barrier. Webster delivered more offense for a pop. He climbed to the top and leapt off, hitting a big Swanton to the floor on Dunne and Riddle. So, fans popped and chanted “NXT!” again.
Webster brought it back in the ring. Riddle caught Andrews in the air for an Electric Chair but Webster made the save, allowing Andrews to turn it into a big hurricanrana into the mat. Riddle kicked out at two while Dunne also tried to make the save. Fans chanted “tag team wrestling!” Andrews ended up hitting a big tornado DDT to Dunne on the floor. Riddle nailed a Spear to Webster in the ring, then a Spear to Andrews as he came in. Webster countered a Riddle suplex with a small package for a two count.
Riddle kicked Webster and tagged Dunne back in. They hit a big double teamed on Webster and Dunne covered but Webster kicked out just in time. More back and forth with all four Superstars in the ring. They went down and Dunne was up first. Riddle crawled to Dunne for the tag. Dunne and Andrews came in at the same time. Dunne hit a huge kick. Andrews countered a move and went for a submission. Dunne countered and went for the X-plex but it got turned into a Stunner from Andrews.
Riddle and Webster went at it, to the floor. Riddle drove Webster down on his face on the outside with his Tombstone. He came back in to continue the double team on Andrews. Dunne assisted with the double team Bro 2 Sleep and Riddle covered Andrews to get the pin. After the match, Dunne and Riddle stood tall together. Mauro showed us a look at the brackets and confirmed Riddle and Dunne vs. Imperium for the next round.
Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano fought off The Undisputed ERA
Mauro and Beth showed us how The Undisputed Era attacked Imperium after WWE UK Champion WALTER defeated Joe Coffey in the main event of last Sunday’s NXT UK “Takeover: Blackpool II” event. Beth said both Imperium and The Undisputed Era will be here next Wednesday to promote their big eight-man match at Worlds Collide.
Elsewhere, Cathy Kelley was backstage outside of the trainer’s room. She said Keith Lee rushed in after the attack on his leg by The Undisputed Era. Cathy said this has put next week’s title match with Roderick Strong in jeopardy, but she hopes to have an update later tonight. Here comes to commercial.
After the break, Tommaso Ciampa came out to a pop. Ciampa named The Velveteen Dream, Imperium and Keith Lee. He said it’s clear The Undisputed Era has a hit list, but so did he and NXT Champion Adam Cole is on his hit list. Ciampa went on about the title and said there’s no more waiting – he needed his life back, he wants his life back, and he’s taking it back. He dropped the mic while The Undisputed Era rushed out and beat him down. Ciampa tried to fight back but they keep beating him down. He won’t stay down.
However, the music hit and Johnny Gargano to make the save. Gargano unloaded on The Undisputed Era and cleaned house while fans were chanting his name. So, fans chant “DIY!” as they double teamed Bobby Fish in the middle of the ring. The “DIY!” chants continued as they stared each other down in the middle of the ring. The Undisputed Era had retreated. Gargano’s music hit while he played to the crowd for a pop.
Beth showed us how Trent Seven tweeted NXT General Manager William Regal for a match between DIY and Moustache Mountain at Worlds Collide.
The Grizzled Young Veterans def. Kushida & Alex Shelley in the first round of The Dusty Classic
This is the final first round match in the Dusty Classic. Alex Shelley came out for his in-ring TV debut for the company. He was with partner Kushida and they are The Time Splitters. The Grizzled Young Veterans – James Drake and Zack Gibson were out next. The Dusty Classic Cup was on display in the NXT Arena. Shelley started things off with Gibson while fans were chanting Shelley’s name. Gibson went to the corner and backed off as they locked up again. More back and forth until Drake saved Gibson from the turnbuckles.
Drake tagged in but Shelley fought them off. Shelley delivered big chops to Drake into the corner. He got sent to their corner but fought both opponents off. Kushida assisted and they both leapt out of the ring to the floor, taking their opponents down for a pop. He brought Drake in but Drake landed a big knee to the gut. Shelley tagged in for double team moves on Drake. He dropped Drake. Shelley grabbed Drake but took a knee to the gut. Gibson tagged back in but Kushida and Shelley double teamed him again.
Kushida and Shelley continued the quick tags. He took Gibson down and worked him over in the middle of the ring. Shelley tagged back in for a double suplex for a two count on Gibson. Gibson came back and knocked Kushida off the apron. Shelley swung but got rocked. Drake tagged in and they double teamed Shelley. He then leapt and dropkicked Kushida off the apron. He and Gibson were in control of Shelley in the ring. After the break, Drake stopped Shelley from tagging. Shelley rolled Drake for a two count.
Drake hit a backbreaker to send Shelley out to re-group. Gibson tagged in and they stopped him with a big double team on the floor. Drake talked trash to the fans and they booed him. Gibson had words with the referee and then worked Shelley over, sending him back in. He was legal as he back-dropped Shelley for a two count in the middle of the ring. Gibson kept Shelley grounded while the referee checked on Shelley and fans chanted his name. Drake tagged in but Shelley ducked and made the hot tag.
Kushida springboarded in with offense to both opponents while fans were chanting his name. He delivered more big offense on both Grizzled Vets. Kushida dropped Drake into the cross armbreaker. Drake turned it into a two count. Kushida hit kicks to Drake. Drake caught a kick and they tangled. Gibson tagged in but Kushida held him. Drake kicked Kushida from behind. Gibson and Drake hit a big superkick – neckbreaker combo on Kushida and Gibson covered for a two count. So, fans tried to rally for Kushida.
Drake tagged back in. Kushida blocked the double team in the middle of the ring. He kept fighting and nailed a scissors takedown on Gibson. Shelley and Kushida double teamed on Drake, but Gibson broke the pin up right at the last second. They double teamed Gibson with two big moves while fans popped. Shelley clotheslined Drake in the corner. Kushida climbed to the top to follow-up but Gibson shoved him off, into the barrier. Drake and Gibson double teamed Codebreaker on Shelley for the pin to win and advance.
After the match, Gibson and Drake recovered and stood tall with their arms raised. Kushida rushed back in to check on Shelley. Mauro showed us the brackets and confirmed The Undisputed Era vs. Drake and Gibson for the next round. We came back to The Time Splitters and the Grizzled Young Vets facing off into the ring. Shelley and Kushida offered their hands to shake but the winners turned them down and exited the ring to boos.
Gibson said they did not travel all this way to stand there and shake hands while the hipster Full Sail crowd pretends to know who Shelley is. He said they have derailed this little reunion tour on the first stop, and they are a great tag team… of the past. Gibson went on and said he and Drake are the future and they’ve conquered Europe, and will never stop. He went on and said they will win the Dusty Classic. Their music started back up as they posed next to the Dusty Classic Cup.
Isaiah “Swerve” Scott def. Lio Rush and Tyler Breeze to earn in a spot in the NXT Cruiserweight title Match at Worlds Collide
NXT Cruiserweight Champion Angel Garza has joined Beth and Mauro at the announce table. Tyler Breeze came out first for the next match. The winner of this will join Garza and two NXT UK Superstars for a Cruiserweight Title Fatal 4 Way at Worlds Collide. Isaiah “Swerve” Scott was out next, followed by Lio Rush. The bell hit and they all faced off. They went at it with Breeze nailing big kicks on each opponent. Breeze hit a big backbreaker on Rush for one count. Rush and Breeze tangled but Scott interrupted.
Breeze got sent into the corner as Scott tangled with Rush. Breeze came back over but Scott took him down with a scissors. Scott stood tall after offense on both. So, fans chanted for Scott as he rocked Rush with an uppercut. Scott hit a big chop to Rush next. He hit stiff kicks to Breeze against the ropes. Scott showed off some, but Rush nailed him from behind. Rush avoided offense from Breeze and crawled under him to rock him. Breeze sent Rush to the apron and they went at it. Rush hit a kick to the face.
Scott ran over but flipped out to the floor as Rush also flipped from the apron to the floor. They stared each other down. Rush got the upperhand on Scott on the floor. Breeze dropped Rush on the floor with a kick from the apron. We go to commercial with Breeze standing tall on the apron while Rush and Scott were down on the outside. After the break, Scott sent Rush to the floor, then went back to work on Breeze while he’s down. Scott tried to suplex Rush in from the apron but Rush blocked it, and again.
Rush tried to suplex Scott but couldn’t. Breeze ran over from behind on Scott, and ended up bringing both opponents to the mat with a big modified German. Rush rocked Breeze with a kick. Breeze came back and dropped both opponents a few times. He clotheslined Scott to the floor. Breeze tried to dive out but Scott ran back in. Rush ran the ropes and nailed a suicide dive on Breeze. Scott flew out and took Rush down next. So, fans chanted “NXT!” Scott brought Rush back in.
Finally, Rush hit a huge standing Spanish Fly for a two count while Garza was watching from the announce table. More back and forth between the three in the ring. Breeze leveled Rush and dropped Scott out of the corner for a two count. He showed some frustration. Breeze beat on Scott with forearms. Scott applied a side headlock and with right hands. He rocked Breeze and Rush sent Breeze over the top rope to the floor. Rush hit a Wrecking Ball dropkick to Breeze as Breeze grabbed his leg from the floor.
He ended up hitting a big hurricanrana on Scott and then a suicide dive to Breeze on the floor. Rush went back in and hit a big Final Hour to Scott in the middle of the ring. Rush covered for the two count as Breeze ran in to break it up. So, fans chanted “NXT!” again. All three Superstars traded more big offense in the middle of the ring. Breeze hit a Supermodel Kick to Scott. Rush dropped Breeze with kicks.
Rush hit the Final Hour on Breeze from the top. Scott tried to put Rush out but Rush nailed him with the Come Up and Breeze with a two count. More back and forth in the middle of the ring. Scott ended up hitting the JML Driver on Breeze for the pin to win. After the match, Scott has earned a spot in the Fatal 4 Way at Worlds Collide. He celebrated as his music hit. Scott taunted Garza, who stared back from the announce table.
