Intercontinental Champion Finn Balor squared off against Shinsuke Nakamura in a non-title match. We saw a sidebar video recorded earlier today. Also, we saw pre-recorded backstage comments from Balor, who praised Nakamura. But he said that’s not the man he’s facing tonight. Tonight he’s facing a man who’s desperate to get his career back on track.
The bell rang, and Nakamura kept control with elbow strikes. Balor countered a pin attempt with a kick to the face. Nakamura stomped away in the corner, keeping control. He kept control until Balor turned it around with a kick for two counts. Balor waited for Nakamura to get back up. Nakamura blocked a Slingblade. Also, he hit a sliding German Suplex at the apron.
Further, Nakamura waited for Balor to get up. He charged for a Kinshasa, but Balor countered and hit a SlingBlade. Balor climbed to the top, but Nakamura cut him off. Nakamura brought Balor down with a knee to the ribs. He climbed to the top while Balor was recovering on the apron. Nakamura hit a big knee strike, knocking Balor from the apron to the floor. He smashed Balor into the ring post and the barrier a few times while the referee counts.
However, they both made it back in at the nine counts. Nakamura tossed Balor back out to the floor. He delivered a Kinshasa on the floor while the referee counts again. Balor made it back in just in time. Nakamura continued the beatdown on the floor, sending Balor into the barrier and the steel ring steps. He left Balor lying while the referee counts. Balor once again made it back in at the nine counts. Nakamura immediately delivered a Kinshasa for the pin to get the non-title win.
