Tommaso Ciampa expressed his grief on Twitter on being forced to relinquish the NXT title. Former NXT Champion was set to defend his title against longtime rival Johnny Gargano at NXT TakeOver: New York in April. But a neck injury took Tommaso out of action for at least six months. Ciampa became one of the most fabulous heels in the history of NXT during his rivalry with Johnny Gargano. The duo split up when Former Champ betrayed Gargano at NXT Takeover: Chicago in 2017.
Later, the team ended up together again on February 18th, making their debut on Monday Night Raw edition. Dave Meltzer reported on March 6th that Tommaso had suffered a neck injury that is going to take him out for at least six months. Thus, the authorities scrapped the long anticipated match at Main Event for NXT. Triple H has announced a Fatal Five-Way competition to determine Gargano’s opponent at Takeover: New York.
