Lio Rush defended his NXT Cruiserweight title against Akira Tozawa

The challenger Akira Tozawa came out first. NXT Cruiserweight Champion Lio Rush was out next while Alicia Taylor did formal ring introductions. The announcers couldn’t stop talking about Angel Garza feuding with Rush. The bell hit, and they tangled some to start. Rush dodged a kick. He got the upperhand first and showed off some. Tozawa fought back but missed a senton as Rush moved. Rush hit a quick splash while fans were cheering them on. He caught a kick and missed a chop.

More back and forth until Tozawa rocked Rush while he’s up top and knocked him to the mat. They tangled on the apron. Rush went for a German from the apron to the floor, but Tozawa fought him off. He went for a powerbomb to the floor, but Tozawa stopped that as well. Tozawa hit a big kick to drop Rush on the floor. Rush grounded Tozawa in the ring. Fans rallied while they were fighting to their feet. Tozawa got Rush in a Fireman’s Carry and slammed him face-first to the mat. He dropkicked Rush out of the ring.

Tozawa went for a dive, but Rush moved. He went to the apron instead, and ran for a big senton, taking Rush back down on the floor. So, the fans chanted “NXT!” They brought it back in, and Tozawa climbed to the top for a missile dropkick. Rush kicked out at one by grabbing the bottom rope. Tozawa swung in the middle of the ring, but Rush blocked and unloaded. The two men traded quick counters and strikes. They both collided in mid-air with jumping kicks in the middle of the ring and went down.

Fans chanted “this is awesome!” while they were slowly getting up. Rush fought Tozawa off as Tozawa blocked his suplex attempt. They went to the apron, and Tozawa delivered a big kick. More back and forth until Tozawa grabbed Rush and delivered a huge German suplex from the apron to the floor. Thus, fans went wild and chanted “holy shit!” They both barely made it back in the ring before the ten count. Fans rallied for Tozawa. Rush countered another German and rolled him up for a two count.

He unloaded and botched The Come Up, hitting the mat. Rush hit kicks while both were on their feet. He unloaded with strikes in the middle of the ring. Finally, Tozawa caught Rush with a snap German. He nailed another German with the bridge for a close two count. Tozawa climbed to the top and went for the big senton, but Rush got his knees up. Rush climbed to the top and hit The Final Hour to Tozawa’s back. He again climbed to the top for another Final Hour. Rush covered for the pin to retain.

Result: NXT Cruiserweight Champion Lio Rush def. Akira Tozawa

After the match, Rush took the title and slowly got to his feet and fans cheered him on. He continued his celebration and headed to the back.
