Adam Cole def. Daniel Bryan to retain NXT title| NXT declared war

Daniel Bryan came out for tonight’s main event. We saw Triple H and Shawn Michaels watching from seats at ringside. The music hit next and NXT Champion Adam Cole to defend his title. NXT North American Champion Roderick Strong was with him, but Strong returned to the back. Triple H and Michaels stood up as Cole headed to the ring and posed. Kayla did formal ring introduction while Tom encouraged fans to donate to the victims of the California wildfires. The bell rang for this main title event.

Bryan got aggressive first and beat Cole down as Triple H looked on. Cole fought back and beat Bryan into the corner while the referee warned him. Bryan turned it around and worked on the leg as he kept Cole grounded. He went for a Surfboard submission, staring at Triple H and Michaels as he put Cole in the air. Bryan then brought Cole into a submission on the mat. He broke the hold and kept control. Bryan delivered an uppercut. Cole came back out of nowhere and rocked Bryan to the mat. Cole sold an arm injury and covered for a two count. He went for a suplex, but Bryan resisted.

They tangled some more, and both went over the top rope, landing hard on the floor. Cole dropped Bryan on his head for a two count. Cole dropped Bryan elbows and a knee, but he kicked out at two. He kept Bryan down with a head-scissor. Bryan mounted offense and nailed a big uppercut. They ran the ropes, and Bryan hit a big knee. Bryan looked to rally the fans while they cheered him on. Cole kicked Bryan in the shoulder. Cole went on, but Bryan dumped him over the top rope to the floor. Bryan flew out of the ring with a knee to the face.

However, Triple H and Michaels looked a bit concerned at ringside. Bryan brought it back in and went to the top for a missile dropkick. He got hyped up as a “yes!” chant started in the crowd. Bryan hit a running dropkick in the corner. Cole countered the top rope Hurricanrana and rolled Bryan for a two count. Bryan rocked Cole with strikes and ran the ropes, but Cole dropped him with a big superkick. Cole covered for a two count. Bryan ended up sending Cole out of the ring in front of Triple H and HBK’s chairs.

They got up and moved. Bryan went back in and reran the ropes for a suicide dive, but Cole met him at the ropes with a huge superkick to the head. Cole climbed up to the top where he had Bryan waiting. Bryan slid out and crotched Cole. He climbed up and nailed a massive super German suplex. Cole landed badly on his neck. Bryan yelled out, and Triple H looked worried about the title possibly going to Bryan. The beard stood up while fans cheered for him. He flew for the diving headbutt, but Cole moved out of the way. Cole dropped Bryan’s neck over his knee for another close two count.

So, the fans chanted “this is awesome!” Cole exposed his knee and charged in with the knee at Bryan, but Bryan countered and applied the single-leg Crab. Cole tried to break it while Triple H stood up and looked worried. Bryan dropped Cole into another leg submission in the middle of the ring. Finally, Cole got the bottom rope and broke it. Bryan talked trash to Cole while kicking him around the ring. Cole fought back, as did Bryan. He drove Bryan into the mat for a close two count. Bryan went right into the LeBell Lock in the middle of the ring while fans go wild. Cole broke it.

Bryan stomped away while holding Cole’s arms. Bryan ended up applying the LeBell Lock again in the middle of the ring. Triple H and Michaels watched closely from ringside. The held was finally broken, and DX looked relieved. Bryan delivered Yes Kicks as Cole tried to get up. Cole ducked the roundhouse kick and rolled Bryan for a two count. Bryan delivered a big kick to the head. Cole met Bryan with a huge superkick like HBK. He climbed to the top and hit a Panama Sunrise for another big pop. Cole hit the ropes and nailed The Last Shot for the pin to retain his title.
